The Women's Decathlon Association was founded in 2019 by Becca Gillespy-Peter and Dimitry Yakoushkin to promote the Women's Decathlon, provide competitive opportunities for athletes wishing to compete in the event, and to work with governing bodies to add the decathlon to major competitions.
Since the early 1900s, decathlons have been contested for men in collegiate, national, and international competitions, but very few opportunities exist for women to compete in a decathlon. Our goal is to change that.
Building on the success of our 2018 National Championships, this year we are hosting a larger, self-contained National Championship at College of San Mateo on June 22 & 23 2019, with prize money, awards, and a certified meet that will certainly face individual and overall record-breaking performances by some of the hardest working and greatest athletes in the US.
This is just the beginning, however, as we will expand nationally, host two or more meets per year, and increase prize money awards and the number and quality of entries.
